This picture describes my favorite part of my husband and I’s anniversary vacation to the Gorge. Not only was this the most beautiful part of our trip, but it was my husband’s first time horseback riding. I grew up around horses, so it was very special to be able to share this moment with him, especially surrounded by such a beautiful setting!
Horsebacking the New River
A beautiful day at Summersville Lake, we made a stop here on our way back home after a wonderful weekend celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, stayed in The Laurel and can’t wait to come back again.

Rafting on the New River…I am in the girl in the middle laughing historically
while we were supposed to be paddling. I was just having way too much fun!!!
Rafting the New River
This is from a stay with country roads cabins from a few years back . My wife and I both love to raft and kayak and typically spend a lot of time on the new in the summertime. I also love to get on the Gauley above Summersville lake in the spring when there is water. On this summertime trip I convinced my wife that there was enough water to kayak on the Gauley and get a little fishing in also. Needless to say, I made a little error and we spent quite a bit of time dragging our kayaks down the Gauley. My wife was just about to murder me when this little guy came out into the river from the bank and decided that we were his new
best friends. That little deer turned a miserable day on the Gauley into a magical one.
We love your cabins and look forward to our next visit!
New Best Friend
My wife and I spent our 30th anniversary at a cabin in Babcock State Park a few years back and had a wonderful time hiking and exploring.
I saw this one morning looking out of our bathroom window while brushing my teeth. It only lasted about one minute. I ran outside to take some pictures and realized I still had a mouthful of toothpaste! Since then we make it a point to stay at a cabin in West Virginia every year.
Thanks, Don Brogan
Over Valentine’s Day last year, my boyfriend and I were celebrating out one year anniversary and we chose to go to the Country Road Cabins. The service was excellent and friendly. Even as I write this I am drinking my coffee from Country Road Cabins mug.
The story behind this photo is that Aaron and I wanted to go on a hike around the grounds. It was a beautiful snowy day. We found a small alcove of stone with beautiful icicle dripping down.
Inside the alcove was something I had never seen before in my life. They were ice needles. (It wasn’t until I got home that I was able find out what they were on Wikipedia). When the water from the ground evaporates and turns to ice in the cold air, these fragile and beautiful needles are formed.
