Summersville Lake

A beautiful day at Summersville Lake, we made a stop here on our way back home after a wonderful weekend celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, stayed in The Laurel and can’t wait to come back again.

New Best Friend

This is from a stay with country roads cabins from a few years back . My wife and I both love to raft and kayak and typically spend a lot of time on the new in the summertime.  I also love to get on the Gauley above Summersville lake in the spring when there is water.  On this summertime trip I convinced my wife that there was enough water to kayak on the Gauley and get a little fishing in also.  Needless to say, I made a little error and we spent quite a bit of time dragging our kayaks down the Gauley.  My wife was just about to murder me when this little guy came out into the river from the bank and decided that we were his new
best friends.  That little deer turned a miserable day on the Gauley into a magical one.
We love your cabins and look forward to our next visit!

Morning Glory

My wife and I spent our 30th anniversary at a cabin in Babcock State Park a few years back and had a wonderful time hiking and exploring.
I saw this one morning looking out of our bathroom window while brushing my teeth. It only lasted about one minute. I ran outside to take some pictures and realized I still had a mouthful of toothpaste! Since then we make it a point to stay at a cabin in West Virginia every year.

Thanks, Don Brogan

Ice Needles

Over Valentine’s Day last year, my boyfriend and I were celebrating out one year anniversary and we chose to go to the Country Road Cabins.  The service was excellent and friendly.  Even as I write this I am drinking my coffee from Country Road Cabins mug.
The story behind this photo is that Aaron and I wanted to go on a hike around the grounds. It was a beautiful snowy day.  We found a small alcove of stone with beautiful icicle dripping down.
Inside the alcove was something I had never seen before in my life.  They were ice needles.  (It wasn’t until I got home that I was able find out what they were on Wikipedia).  When the water from the ground evaporates and turns to ice in the cold air, these fragile and beautiful needles are formed.

Glade Creek Mill

My husband and I are photographers in WV,  and we donate our photography to the State Park systems of WV. We love to go to our favorite place to shoot and that is the famous Glade Creek Grist Mill in Southern West Virginia.
We have been to Babcock State Park in every season- and yet every season is so beautiful and we never can wait for the next season to come, year after year.
There was a lot of snow fall this year at Babcock State Park and the Glade Creek Mill trimmed in white was a beautiful scene. We slipped and slided around the park and got some amazing photos of the snow at the Grist Mill. As we went around absorbing the beauty of winter and took some photos together, noticing that our tripods were leaving marks in the snow as though a photographer was there shooting, like our moment there was frozen in time so to speak. The snow kept coming down as darkness started to near, it was so cold there, I think I had three shirts on under my two coats…The icicles were from the roof of the park’s Gift Shop to the ground below, it was amazing to see them looking from ground up, it was like they were never ending and reached the darkening sky above. As we packed we had met some fisherman in the area, and packed our camera gear up as we talked to them about their fishing expeditions in the nearby area, as they showed us a beautiful Rainbow Trout that they had caught earlier.
West Virginia has a lot to offer, it is a beautiful state with mountains, beautiful skyscapes, wildlife and nature surrounding it. We enjoy traveling WV, and will continue to donate our photography to the State Park systems to promote what a beautiful state we live in.
